My son's great grandfather and his girlfriend's great grandfather started the first medical rescue squad together back in 1930 in Kenosha Wisconsin. The kids met at High school in Portland Oregon. We discovered the connection a few months after they started dating. 80 years, hundreds of miles, crazy odds. It makes me wonder if we're magnetically drawn to people that have the same genetics as our ancestors friends.

Re: Massive fire north of Makati, Manila – November 16, 2009

Gosh I can only imagine the impact and devastation on those families. Over here at the Philippines, while there are cab companies that you can call, they don't quite compare to the excellence of service provided by Blue Bird. Heck, the school I went to (Jakarta International School) almost begs of you to take nothing but BB, for your safety--that's how trusted it has become. It's wonderful.

The issue about the cab companies here in the Philippines is it's SO DAMN HARD to contact them. The phone lines are ALWAYS busy. In desperation I also "hit the Google machine" (sorry Pampanga I just thought it was quite cute :P) to see if there's a way to order a taxi online in the Philippines.

And to my luck, there is. There's this site called Mataxi.ph (http://www.mataxi.ph) which takes taxi orders online. I planned a trip the next day (the site currently requires you to place orders a day in advance) and I was greeted in the morning by a shiny new Vios taxi. The driver was courteous. I had a great day.

Re: Has micro-blogging destroyed your blog?

I've been quoted as saying that Twitter is blogging for people with ADHD.

Bad Twitter feeds are full of the minutiae of people's lives... good Twitter feeds are like little blogposts. But while 140 characters is wonderful for pithy aphorisms, it is no substitute for the rich language of a well-written blog post.

I will post maybe two to five tweets a week... and twice as many "real" blogposts. But I have seen other bloggers go off the deep end, neglecting their blogs but spewing forth hundreds of tweets. Feh.

In the ideal world, there's a scenario in which the quick, viral nature of Twitter, the "selected audience" character and interactivity of Facebook, and the "throw it on the wall and see what sticks" quality of blogging reach a dynamic equilibrium, complementing and enhancing each other. We'll see.

Re: Has micro-blogging destroyed your blog?

Speaking of which, has everyone read Evan William's recent take on this subject? EvHead: What Blogger Should Do

Re: Has micro-blogging destroyed your blog?

I find it intriguing, Brett, that you've upped your posting, but also could that correlate with the fact that you were new (unless I'm incorrect about you being new) to blogging, and naturally would have increased your tempo with or without FB / FF / Twitter?

800 posts a year is a lot! So they say (and fascinatingly accurate) that when human skin is exposed to cold air, human body will have 'excessive air; - enough to be clots in body's circulation. My mother never tells me what circulation it is, specifically. I'd like to believe it's energy circulation, otherwise calls for bigger bills instead, no?

It works is by scraping the coin through the hallow space between your bones, your skin must be lubricated by balsam. I suppose regular massage oil won't do. Must be heated massage oil? We call it balsam anyway. And I put lubricated because scraping your skin is painful. It's not stingy as some people who never tried it said, it's simply painful. It will create welts of red bumps. Tiny-tiny red bumps. When it's blood red, then it's cold air. When it's chili red, then it's cold air and your body is heaty. Heaty is another story.

If you have aches in your back and feeling dizzy or warm for no reason whatsoever, think back, maybe you have been exposed to cold air. It can be very uncomfortable, medical people call it 'cold'. Coining will miraculously take that cold away from you. I'm not sure how it works. But the red welts will be gone in a few days, unlike bruises.

The origin of coining is not known by me. Yet it came down to me from my mother's side. Although my mother is a straits Chinese, she is peranakan (nyonya) by culture. I believe if you understand everything I wrote, kerokan is a piece of cake.

Re: Has micro-blogging destroyed your blog?

No, micro-blogging REVIVED my blog. Twitter helped me build a readership (albeit relatively small).More importantly, I could figure out what to write about.

I am blogging much more than I ever have, and will hit 1,000 posts before the end of this month -- over 800 of those this year alone. There's also much greater variety in content. I am posting pictures, comments on websites, quotes from news articles, youtube videos... a lot of sound-bites, along with the longer more considered posts.

Re: Has micro-blogging destroyed your blog?

Yes, they killed my blog.
